And welcome once again to my blog, i hope you and your families and staying safe and adhering to all protocols been put in place to combat the corona virus pandemic. Today i would like us to take a look at the difference between been diagnosed as a gluacoma patient and an ocular hypertensive patient.
So glaucoma is disease with characteristic exhibitions that is seen within the eye by an optometrist using the appropriate tools, the disease is sight threatening if not treated and one of the many signs used to diagnosed is the development of high intra-ocular pressure. Because of this many people once their doctor tells them the eye pressure is high and that they may need to be managed they read some few thing online and start to panic, but having a high intraocular pressure does not guarantee that you have glaucoma and unless proven through further test.
In Glaucoma patients your doctor will tell you that your nerves at the back of your eye is getting destroyed and it is giving of the peculiar signs or indications seen in glaucomatous conditions, you may be asked to either undergo Visual Field Test or an OCT test in addition to the use of eye drops everyday to combat the pressure, if these signs and indications are not showing then you are probably suffering from ocular hypertension, to be on the safer side though your doctor would still let you undergo these tests just to confirm.
So as i always say, seek information from the right source, when in doubt talk to your optometrists. It is important that you understand that your doctor telling you your ocular pressure is high does not necessarily mean that you have glaucoma. Our pressure in our systems fluctuate and so does the eye.
