Hello Everyone,

And welcome to my blog, i hope you and your families are staying safe and adhering to all protocols put in place by WHO and your local government to help combat covid19. Today i want us to take a quick look at a common symptom that people present to the clinic and the reason why this happen

Our sight is like a window, a glass window window, very transparent and very delicate, reacting to a lot of things and been affected by lots of things. But our window has two sides, the front side and the back side, lets call the front side our cornea and the back side the lens. These are the two major components or media of refraction without which vision would have been well i do not know what vision would have been then

So just like the window which becomes hazy when it rains your vision becomes foggy when you cry, when there is water on your eye, we are not considering the fact that there is basal tear always on the eye. Also, our cornea the black part of the eye is extremely sensitive and may scar easily when one takes on injury, when this happens the light is impeded from going into the eye, light which passes through the may appear hazy or cloudy but most complains of cloudy vision is as a result of the lens and it turns out to be mainly due to cataract growth, thus this is mostly also a senile condition

What happens is that as the lens becomes more opaque or in other words translucent light is not able to pass through very clear and that which passes through gets scattered on the cornea creating the cloudy vision perception. Unfortunately not much can be done in this case to clear that except maybe some refraction to make it just a little better, the only way your vision becomes like it was is if the lens was removed and replaced with a clear one which is done by an ophthalmologist during the cataract excision surgery.

There is some hope though, taking in lots of fruits and vegetables filled with vitamin c, zinc, xeazathin and lutein are known to have a positive impact on reducing the rate of cataract development, and some research even suggest that people who have been taking it regular vitamin c for over 10 year have less chances of developing cataract.

So thus what i have for you today, thanks for reading and have a wonderful weekend. Do not forget to report all ocular cases to your optometrist as soon as possible and to seek information from the right source.
