I don't know why, but I'm gonna use a lot of exclamation points today. I'm super tired coming into Monday at midnight as I start this post. Not sure why I'm tired other than night shift, cause I got some excellent sleep this weekend. Perhaps the social schedule was a bit mentally taxing.
I screwed up big time with the list. Yeah, a fair bit got done, but at the same time, I neglected to check the goals list with the secretary of social affairs (that's Melissa. My wife). So our social schedule did end up taking precedent over my progress list.
I got milk Friday for three families counting my own. I did catch a couple hours of nap time Friday too after doing some minor things like picking up reloading components at the gun store, getting vodka, and going for groceries. It's good to see the reloading market restoring a semblance of balance, even though primers and powder are still scarce. I'll just pick up what's available as it's available.
Leaky pig waterer!
Friday evening we went to a gathering for Good Friday. It was spiritually refreshing, as I was able to talk doctrinally with some men like I haven't done in a decade. These people are folks that attend the church we went to on Resurrection Sunday, rather than the church we've been attending for the last two or three years. The meal Friday evening was lamb, chicken, cake, salad, and vatious charcuterie, the company was excellent, and the discussions were hearty to match!
Pine pollen!
Saturday morning was spent on projects. I erected the world's jankiest pig shelter (it's for pigs, it's gonna get torn to hell anyways), and got the leaky pig waterer set up pretty early on. I'll need a gasketed bulkhead for the nipple to screw into, but that's no big deal because they're like $3 on purse.
Leaky pig waterer!
After that I set out on the monumental task of planting trees. Where the hell can I plant more trees?! But I figured it out and found good places for a peach tree and four of the willow trees. Nothing else got planted because a man scout came over and we did agorism. I gave him at least a dozen and a half trees between pecans, mulberries, and plum trees, along with a handful of goji bushes that came up this year. He also got a rabbit out of the deal. We sent Whiteberry to go live out her days with him making food on his homestead. We haven't ironed out yet what I'll get in trade besides some of his pablano pepper starts, but I imagine a handful of ghost pepper plants and the extreme gratification of having helped a member of my intentional community get closer to separating from the industrial food system and many other forces of evil. That's a major driving factor for me, seeing my friends become better off.
Pig house!
So, the list as it was at the start of the weekend got compressed now down to this...
Strawberry blooms!
So while a fair bit got done, I didn't kill half the list. I really really wanted to have the pig pen nearly done, and I guess it kinda is, but I still lack the gate. I have a piece of wood to use, and I think I'll put a frame and chain link over it to add some stiffness. Underneath I might bury a section of railroad tie to dissuade digging a little. There's a section by the back pig fence where I want to do the same.
New peach tree!
After a little math and research, I concluded that each of my big cages uses 18 feet (roughly 6m) of rabbit wire. Since it doesn't come in 36 foot rolls, I'll settle for a 50' roll that'll handle three, and I'll help another man account build one.
Baby squash Doo doo de Doo do-doo, Baby squash Doo doo de Doo do-doo, Baby squash Doo doo de Doo do-doo, baby squash!
Work has been straight up kicking my ass tonight. It's three hours after I usually post, and I've been typing up these measley 800 words all night. I'm gonna call this one a wrap.
