I think it is a balance. It is not completely a single destination, nor is it completely dependent on us. Factors that we can control and others that we don't influence the future of our existence. But sometimes it is difficult to distinguish. Sometimes we make mistakes or have a hard time believing that we can control more than we actually can, and other times we suffer from underestimating ourselves and believing that we have no power to decide what happens in our lives.
