Peaches have always been one of my favorite summer fruits. When they are just at the right type of ripeness, they are sweet, juicy and full of flavor. They are also colorful and soft to the touch, but not too mushy.
The supermarket I occasionally get them from don't usually have them on sale too much. Last week, they were on sale for $1.49 a pound, so I bought a few since they looked, felt and smelled ripe enough.
Some supermarkets don't want the customers to squeeze the fruit before they buy it, but when it comes to fruit like peaches, a light squeeze might be necessary--unless you want to end up with peaches that are either too ripe or not ripe enough.
