As a major fan of TNG (and the 60's Star Trek) I really, really struggled to get into the Picard series. In fact, I couldn't even take on Discovery.
I definitely prefer and miss the old formula of (almost) each episode being its own thing, with amazing writing going into exploring certain themes and characters, which ultimately led to the growth of each character throughout the series despite the show not having some typical linear story.
I tried to watch both, but they just don't look like Star Trek anymore. They feel a bit too much like generic sci-fi.
