Yeah I think if you have to speed up something you're watching, there's a good chance you don't actually enjoy it but more so enjoy being part of the community that surrounds it. For example there are tons of people on Letterboxd which add a silly amount of films to their lists every year. People ask them how they watch so many films; their responses: they put something on, don't actually pay attention to it, and focus on something else.

The world's in a weird spot where people seemingly feel the need to do things at rapid pacing. At that if they don't "consume" a particular piece of media then they're missing out somehow, so out of FOMO they hop into something that again, they probably don't actually like.
