Scream 3 is a sequel that I’ve come to really appreciate over time—that’s because when I first saw it, I was disappointed, but as I said, as time went on, I learned that certain factors influenced the making of the film. For example, this third installment is less violent or graphic because, at the time of its release, there were attacks on schools, which led to a reduction in gory scenes and graphic deaths; That violence made the humor more prominent and led to Gale, Dewey, and Jennifer taking on the roles of detectives trying to solve the big mystery—and it’s precisely that mystery, related to Sidney’s mother’s past, her rape, and other events, that makes this film more relevant, because it essentially recounts what the producer of the Scream trilogy was doing— I’m referring to Harvey Weinstein, who was accused of abusing many actresses so they could work in Hollywood; that’s what makes Scream 3 stand out as one of the best in the franchise.
