Las películas dentro del género conocido como "Survival Film", en su mayoría son historias crudas porque ponen a prueba el físico, la mentalidad, en sí la resistencia que cada quien debe tener para sobrevivir a una dura prueba; recuerdo que de niño la primera película que vi dentro de este género fue "Alice" (1993), la cual es basada en hechos reales y relata la historia de un grupo de sobrevivientes que hacen lo imposible para sobrevivir en las montañas de Los Andes; creo que este film para mí puso una base de lo que siempre debe o puede ocurrir en este tipo de historias como por ejemplo la Ley de Murphy que dice: "Si algo puede salir mal, saldrá mal" y creo que desde esta ley se puede crear cualquier tipo de historia dentro de este género usando o no cosas que impacten y entretengan al público; suena fácil, pero lo que en realidad importa es el obstáculo que deben superar para poder sobrevivir, ahí está la verdadera y única importancia en este tipo de films.

The movies within the genre known as "Survival Film", most of them are raw stories because they test the physical, mentality and the resistance that each person must have to survive an ordeal; I remember that as a child the first film I saw within this genre was "Alice" (1993), which is based on real events and tells the story of a group of survivors who do the impossible to survive in the mountains of the Andes; I think this film for me laid a foundation of what should or can always happen in this type of stories such as Murphy's Law that says: "If something can go wrong, it will go wrong" and I think that from this law you can create any kind of story within this genre using or not things that impact and entertain the audience; it sounds easy, but what really matters is the obstacle they must overcome in order to survive, there is the real and only importance in this kind of films.
Desde hace días tenía agendado ver "FALL", tenía curiosidad de ver un film el cual había leído breves opiniones positivas y quería saber que tan ciertas eran; mis expectativas estaban en ver cómo desarrollar la historia de dos amigas que deciden tener una peligrosa aventura la cual es trepar una torre televisiva de 610 metros de altura que queda en el desierto; está peligrosa prueba está basada para obtener fama y superar el miedo a vivir y esto debido a que ambas mujeres fueron víctimas de un horrible trauma y que de alguna manera las dos necesitan recuperar el valor para poder superar lo que han vivido, pero no será nada fácil porque diferentes situaciones las harán quedarse aisladas del mundo en dónde el uso de su destreza y mente podrá ser lo necesario para que puedan sobrevivir y seguir con vida.
For days I had scheduled to see "FALL", I was curious to see a film which I had read brief positive reviews and wanted to know how true they were; my expectations were to see how to develop the story of two friends who decide to have a dangerous adventure which is to climb a television tower of 610 meters high that is in the desert; This dangerous test is based to obtain fame and overcome the fear of living and this because both women were victims of a horrible trauma and somehow they both need to recover the courage to overcome what they have lived, but it will not be easy because different situations will make them stay isolated from the world where the use of their skill and mind may be what is necessary for them to survive and stay alive.
Esta debe ser la historia más simple de una de las películas que he visto en este año; quería verla porque pienso que necesitaba ver una historia directa, sin grandes pretensiones, que me entretenga y que tenga otros factores importantes como es una aceptable dirección, actuación y guion; a pesar de crearme expectativas por un pequeño film, debo decir que no sentía que debería ser muy exigente y es que en realidad mi humor estaba para ver algo que sabía que no sería pretencioso. La película fue dirigida por Scott Mann, del cual el único film que he visto es "The Tournament" (2009) del cual no recuerdo mucho (para no decir nada); en esta nueva oportunidad pienso que hace un buen trabajo en muchas de las escenas en dónde nuestras protagonistas deben escalar tanto una montaña como la torre; justamente las escenas que son en la torre son lo que más me ha gustado y que considero perfectas para esta historia y es que hubo momentos en dónde pensé que sí una persona que padece de vertido decide (extrañamente) ver este film, creo que se la pasará en el suelo; no voy a mentir a decir que hay algunas tomas que me sorprendieron. El guion fue co-escrito entre Mann y Jonathan Frank; posiblemente sea en parte lo mejor de la película porque explora muchos temas, en especial el superar duros traumas que pueden hundir a cualquiera persona en la depresión o llevar a quien sea a realizar lo imposible sin medir los peligros que puedan tener; no hay duda de que está historia es sobre personas consideradas vulnerables, manejables, dependientes que harán cualquier cosa para sentirse valientes o fuertes, sin tener una verdadera noción de que no deben demostrar nada o a nadie para ser quienes deseen ser.
This must be the simplest story of one of the films I have seen this year; I wanted to see it because I think I needed to see a direct story, without great pretensions, that entertains me and that has other important factors such as an acceptable direction, acting and script; despite creating expectations for a small film, I must say that I did not feel I should be very demanding and is that actually my mood was to see something that I knew would not be pretentious. The film was directed by Scott Mann, whose only film I have seen is "The Tournament" (2009) of which I don't remember much (to say nothing); in this new opportunity I think he does a good job in many of the scenes where our protagonists must climb both a mountain and the tower; precisely the scenes that are in the tower are what I liked the most and that I consider perfect for this story and there were moments where I thought that if a person who suffers from spillage decides (strangely) to see this film, I think he will spend it on the floor; I will not lie to say that there are some shots that surprised me. The screenplay was co-written between Mann and Jonathan Frank; it is possibly in part the best part of the film because it explores many themes, especially overcoming harsh traumas that can plunge anyone into depression or drive anyone to do the impossible without measuring the dangers they may have; there is no doubt that this story is about people considered vulnerable, manageable, dependent who will do anything to feel brave or strong, without having a true notion that they must prove nothing or to no one to be who they want to be.
Es raro que para este tipo de producciones espere ver grandes actuaciones y es que sé que por este film las actrices no serán consideradas para grandes premios del cine. En primer momento el trabajo de Grace Caroline Currey como "Becky" pudo ser mejor, en su dolor y su miedo pudo hacer un mejor trabajo, pero creo que al hacer una mujer vulnerable (siendo anteriormente fuerte) me pareció bien, más que nada cuando está escalando y se queda atrapada en la torre, en ese momento su personaje es mejor desarrollado, pero siempre estará la sensación de hacer un mejor trabajo; creo que Currey tuvo otro problema y fue la actuación de Virginia Gardner como "Hunter" la cual su personaje fue más creíble y agradable, ella interpretó muy bien a una chica que esconde un dolor o culpa haciendo cosas intrépidas y eso lo hace muy bien, Gardner transmite esa fuerza y valentía que motiva a cualquiera de hacer cosas peligrosas, tiene la convicción y confianza de hacer lo imposible y ella tanto culpable como salvadora en esta historia; es mi personaje favorito y eso con una simple actuación.
It is rare that for this kind of productions I expect to see great performances and I know that for this film the actresses will not be considered for major film awards. At first the work of Grace Caroline Currey as "Becky" could have been better, in her pain and fear she could have done a better job, but I think that by making a vulnerable woman (being previously strong) I thought it was good, mostly when she is climbing and gets trapped in the tower, at that moment her character is better developed, but there will always be the feeling of doing a better job; I think Currey had another problem and that was the performance of Virginia Gardner as "Hunter" which her character was more believable and likable, she played very well a girl who hides a pain or guilt doing fearless things and that makes it very well, Gardner conveys that strength and bravery that motivates anyone to do dangerous things, she has the conviction and confidence to do the impossible and she both guilty and savior in this story; she is my favorite character and that with a simple performance.
FALL es un buen film, no es el mejor ni perfecto, pero creo que no quería ser considerado como es, ni mucho menos innovador, pero eso tampoco quiere decir que el director haga un trabajo normal o simple porque parece que si pudo hacer un buen uso del poco presupuesto que tuvo y creo que en una sola toma se nota, pero en lo demás pienso que todo estará bien hecho; me sorprendió porque me entretuvo, tiene muy buenas escenas y siendo sincero, es buena historia que mejora cuando los personajes tienen un desarrollo mejor o las actrices hacen una mejor interpretación; mi única queja es sobre la duración del film, creo que dos horas es excesivo; con una duración menor, haciendo énfasis en el drama entre las dos protagonistas, la segunda hora del film sería mejor y hasta más impactante de lo que es; pude investigar que originalmente Scott Mann pensó que está historia sería un "Short Film" y por eso es que lo que anexan para transformarla en un largometraje pienso que afecta un poco la historia. A pesar de tener en mi opinión un solo fallo, recomiendo esta película, tiene una buena historia, puedo decir que hasta real con respecto a las amistades o relaciones amorosas, a personas deprimidas, vulnerables y también sobre lo que debe hacer personas solitarias para captar la atención de otros, eso me ha gustado de sus personajes y que impulsa a qué ocurra toda esta aventura mortal; está bien dirigida a pesar de ser un pequeño film, un presupuesto de tan solo 3 millones de $ es muy poco tanto para el desarrollo del film como para su promoción y ahí existió el fallo de "Lionsgate" como distribuidora, creo que pensaron en que tendría un éxito como los de "Blumhouse Productions", pero sin la existencia de una promoción adecuada no pueden recaudar buena cantidad de dinero y es una lástima porque pienso que pudo hacer una buena recaudación; aparte de lo antes descrito, si quieren ver un film simple, buenas escenas, suspenso, tensión y si no sufren de vértigo, entonces vean esta película.
FALL is a good film, it is not the best or perfect, but I think it did not want to be considered as it is, much less innovative, but that does not mean that the director does a normal or simple job because it seems that if he could make good use of the little budget he had and I think that in one shot it shows, but otherwise I think everything will be well done; I was surprised because I was entertained, it has very good scenes and being honest, it is good story that improves when the characters have a better development or the actresses make a better interpretation; my only complaint is about the length of the film, I think that two hours is excessive; with a shorter length, emphasizing the drama between the two protagonists, the second hour of the film would be better and even more impacting than it is; I could investigate that originally Scott Mann thought that this story would be a "Short Film" and that is why what they add to transform it into a feature film I think that affects the story a little bit. Despite having in my opinion only one flaw, I recommend this movie, it has a good story, I can say that even real with respect to friendships or love relationships, depressed people, vulnerable and also about what lonely people must do to get the attention of others, I liked that of their characters and that drives what happens all this deadly adventure; it is well directed despite being a small film, a budget of only 3 million $ is very little for the development of the film as well as for its promotion and there was the failure of "Lionsgate" as a distributor, I think they thought it would have a success like those of "Blumhouse Productions", but without the existence of a proper promotion they can not raise a good amount of money and it is a pity because I think it could have made a good collection; apart from the above, if you want to see a simple film, good scenes, suspense, tension and if you don't suffer from vertigo, then watch this movie.
