AFTER THOUGHT
Hot off the presses. I showed this to a good friend of mine and they did some research, looked it up fast for me and sent me some information. I have never in my life seen one of these before.
According to Wikipedia, this is a **Dryocampa rubicunda (say that 3 times fast)or rosy maple moth. A small North American moth (I am with ya so far). Varies from cream or white to bright pink or yellow (glad I met the Pink and Yellow kind).
(evidently the males) have bushier antennae. The adults don't eat (hmmm) but the caterpillars in numbers can defoliate whole trees (Yikes!) but do no permanent damage.
Well, I learned something but more than the "learning" part am truly inspired by the beauty of this creature that I have never before seen. Sometimes it is the little things in life that make a big difference. It is a wonder, to me to find new things to be amused and entertained by.
I suppose if you are a maple tree farmer or a syrupy person you may hate these "bugs". For me seeing the just 1 has made my day a little happier.
