When we are in our own city and home, everything is so familiar and everything runs in a routine. We have fixed places to do all your activities. It's the same roads and the same people we navigate through day and night. But when we travel everything changes, it's new roads, new people, new dining places, new culture, everything changes and there is no familiarity. You are exposed to a whole different world. It's not the same world that normally revolves around us. Suddenly the world starts feeling big when we step out from our four walls.
Whenever I travel, I observe how my attitude also changes. I become mindful about the very little things around. There is no rush, then it all comes down to slowing down and enjoying the moment. Experiencing something which is not a part of my routine and day-to-day life. There are couple of times that I have got lost.
One incident I remember very clearly in Athens. I got lost, I was following maps but it was still confusing. I was going through one street to another to reach to my destination. In the process, I discovered quite a few things. Like there was one amazing crystal shop, from where I picked up a few crystals. I was glad in that moment that I got lost. Then another incident goes long time back, when I first travelled to Switzerland, that time there were no google maps and I was fumbling with a paper map to reach to one point. It was in the city of Basel. There most of the people speak German, and I wanted to ask for directions but no one understood me. It was my first international trip, I was also scared, but then somehow managed to find my way. I did not feel frustrated in these moments, but rather I felt adventurous. And these kinds of experiences only made me more confident in life. It's ok to not have a perfect day and get lost or to not know everything and struggle to find it.
I do make a plan for my holidays but then if it goes haywire, I do not bother much about it, because I know that in it also there is something to experience. Travelling changes the lens that we see with. Meeting new people, understanding their culture, understanding them even without knowing their language, experiencing new roads, new food, new ways of life. All of it is so beautiful. Whenever I return back from a holiday for the first few days, I feel like I am in a no man's land. I do not instantly connect with my place, because a part of me is still in the destination visited.
Travelling makes me understand that I am living in a certain way but then there are so many more ways to live life and mine does not have to match with someone else's life because every way of life is unique and there is no right or wrong way of life.
