I am always in awe of women who have more than 1 child, till 2 it's still ok but anything more than that I always wonder how do they manage them. It is such a challenge raising up with 1 child and if there are more I can imagine how hectic life would become. Not only hectic but even financially it is such a challenge, unless you are very rich and there are no money issues. When I was pregnant I always wished for a son, not because I am against a girl child or anything like that, but we were so many girls in our family and not even a single brother. I always wished for a boy in the family. Even from my maternal family they were all sisters, I had many aunts but only one uncle. That was the reason that I wanted a Son, to have some male presence in the family. Luckily I had one.

After his birth like any mother it was a full time job taking care of him. When I got married I had thought that I would have 2 children but after my son, the way he seeked my attention I was hesitant to go in for a second one. I realized that it would be beyond my capacity to give equal attention to the second one and manage a job and my Son who were already there. My Son was little slow in his growing up and hence he needed extra care. I also worked in an odd hours job, so that was another challenge. I could not afford to quit working as there were financial responsibilities.

Since he was a single child, I had to be his mother and a friend too when required. Now he is a grown up man, but he still seeks my attention. Does not go shopping by himself, I have to be there with him. I can only say he is a pampered mama's boy...hehehe.

In the initial years I thought once my Son gets stable and little independent I would think of a second child, but then in that almost 10 years passed away and then I felt it would be a big age difference between the 2 children. The other thing was that my Son was never prepared for a sibling. Whenever I would ask if he would want a brother or a sister, he would straight away say No, I do not want. That was another reason why I was skeptical to have a second child. There were many factors, but the most important was my own personal capability to raise a second child with the same rigor as the first one. I felt may be I would not be able to do good justice to the second one, as I had all my attention on the first one all the time, and I could not imagine myself leaving him by himself.

All my other sisters did have 2 children and now when I look back I feel that I should have been a little strong and gone in for a second one. My wish was to always have a Son and that was fulfilled so I did not have that strong urge to go in for a second one. It is always good to have 2 children, though my Son never wanted a sibling. Today also when I ask him, he says the same thing, I am happy being alone :-)

I always admire all those women who have more than 2 children. It takes a lot to raise so many. Not only financially, but also in terms of giving your time and being equally available for all of them.
