We’ve all seen them lately—those scary videos on our feed warning us about a "new virus" that’s supposedly worse than COVID-19. The rumors say it’s spreading from rats, it’s already taking lives on ships, and we’re headed for another global lockdown.
As someone who believes in staying consistent and looking at the facts (just like I talk about in my other posts), I wanted to dig a bit deeper into this. Is it time to panic, or is this just another case of social media making mountains out of it?
The virus they are talking about is called Hantavirus. Now, here’s the thing: it’s not new. While the internet makes it sound like a fresh disaster, the World Health Organization (WHO) has been tracking this for years. We usually see about 1,000 to 1,500 cases every year. It’s a known issue, not a surprise "sequel" to 2020.
The video I watched recently made a great point that really stuck with me. We worry so much about a global pandemic, but we ignore the rats running around in our local bakeries or the storerooms where our daily bread is kept.
Think about it—rats have been around for centuries.
Why is this suddenly "news"?
It’s because our hygiene standards are slipping.
We buy food and snacks without checking if the place is clean.
We focus on the "big scary news" but ignore the dirt in our own neighborhoods.
It’s the same old story Views.
In the race to get more likes and shares, people link anything they can to COVID-19 because they know it scares us. But spreading fear just to get a few extra followers isn't just wrong—it’s a disservice to our community. On Hive, we strive for better.
In my writing, I often talk about the "Art of Saying No" or knowing "When to Quit." Today, I’m saying we should say no to fake news and quit sharing things without verifying them.
Instead of worrying about a lockdown that isn't happening, let’s focus on:
