Hello, friends at Ladies Of Hive, I hope you’re all doing very well. Life has its nuances and colours, and that’s what the topics suggested by chacald.dcymt@chacald.dcymt for this week – which is already drawing to a close – are all about. We’ve all been in situations at some point that make us come across as either the villain or the heroine of the story – it all depends on each person’s perspective. And this is also linked to the changes we go through as we grow up, where the colours that define us shift as we grow and mature. I’d like to talk more openly about this topic and also invite mandysmoon@mandysmoon to join the contest.

Tell us about a time when someone made a wrong assumption about you, without knowing the facts. How did you deal with it? How did it make you feel?

I remember that whilst I was in a place I considered my home but which wasn’t actually mine, there were many comments – particularly from relatives – based on the mistaken idea that our family unit (my mum, my siblings and my grandmother) was in the wrong. It was such a difficult situation because not only were we facing the uncertainty of not knowing what to do in the face of being evicted from that place, but we also had to deal with constant comments and insinuations about horrible things that hadn’t even crossed our minds. A relative falling ill during this time, coupled with the indifference shown towards the situation we were going through, made me realise who my real family was and who was there for us when we needed them. It was difficult because you always hope that your family will be that place where you can find refuge and lean on them as a healthy, loving unit. But that wasn’t how it turned out; what that experience taught me was a valuable lesson in maturity and personal growth. Firstly, that we shouldn’t expect anything from anyone, but neither should we close ourselves off to the idea that everyone is equally ill-intentioned. Everyone gives what’s in their heart and mind, and whilst it was obvious that a situation like this could happen, it was difficult to come to terms with so many rumours and speculations being spread, especially given who we are and how we think. Now that I look at it from a different perspective, I can see that we did the best we could with what we had, and I’ve learnt that God’s timing is truly wise; He knows how to put every thing and person in their rightful place.

We recently wrote about our favorite colors and how they make us feel. But, how has your favorite color changed over time? What prompted that change?

As a child and teenager, I really liked the colour black, and things related to the fashion of the time, which was very Tumblr or very much in the style of the 2000s–2010s. But over time I’ve come to like colour more and have started to vary my style; now I really like lighter colours, such as pastels. I think the Asian style is really lovely, as is a more casual look. I have clothes in various colours, but I’m particularly fond of jumpers, unusual details and pieces that aren’t too basic or repetitive. On my school days, I’m lucky enough to wear a uniform and not have to choose what to wear every day, but I like being able to get dressed up and feel pretty. I’d like to have more accessories; I didn’t used to wear many, but now I think they’re a detail that really makes a difference to whatever outfit you’re wearing. ✨🫶🏽
