I worked a late shift in the Emergency Department this evening...
When finishing up, I talked to one of the Patient Service Attendants (PSA's) who told me about the lunar eclipse last night:
"...the moon was so bright, I couldn't look at the craters. I had the telescope out and just slowly tracked it's progress - didn't stop watching till 4 AM!"
I wouldn't know. I had planned to check it out to see what it looked like at some point, but that time revolved around the Little Man and when he put on his "late night call-out". Lately, that has been approximately 0200 and afterwards would have been a good time to check out any nocturnal visual activity. That has been the case for quite some time now - but not last night. He decided to be hyperactive all day, then sleep the night through. The pictures on facebook were lovely and the sleep was treasured - so I have no complaints at all...
When the Little Man was born, the one issue that would drag me down was the lack of sleep. He was dozy but cried throughout the night and by 8 weeks I had become a wreak. The one thing I did look forward to was the winter Olympics. I have always loved these events, but because they usually run opposite to the Australian timezone, the events run overnight and I miss out on them all. For once, I was going to be awake anyway and would get to see them.
Just prior to the opening ceremony a friend came to visit who is a midwife:
"...he's obviously a belly sleeper. Ignore what the Maternal and Child Health nurses say - he'll be fine sleeping on his stomach. Just let him do it." This advice was right of course. So the Little Man could finally sleep, and so could I. Which was wonderful for a ragged, starved body clock crying for rest, but I missed out on the Olympics.
Last night was the first night in some time I have slept right through. It's Murphy's Law that the one night I don't mind staying up is the one night I don't have to. But who cares? There are always pictures on the internet (I just provided a lovely one) and the sleep was worth it!! :)
