I like to share some music that I am listening to each week and this week we listen to 3 tunes from the great band James.
But first, for those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday.... to quote
The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. I initially thought that James was the singer of this group, but that is the band and the lead singer is the fabulous Tim Booth. Probably the most famous for their Sit Down tune that I think was very popular, but that isn't in my selection for today.
The first tune is Getting Away With It All Messed Up is probably my favorite by the band. The amazing singing by Tim Booth really carries it off for me. He really gets into it in this live performance swinging his arms around and closing his eyes.
I think that it is a good song for listening when you are contemplating things and maybe have lots on your mind. I don't know if it helps you feel better, but maybe it is apt for this situation.
I could think of what the meaning of this song is and for me describes the nonsense that is going on around us in the news and politics for example. They are getting away with it and it is all messed up.
However, the lyrics mention about a guy called Daniel who rescues a woman called Grace from drowning. Then that he drinks like Richard Burton, which I presume is alot. So are things messed up because Daniel is a heavy drinker? I guess only Tim knows the answer to this.
The next song I really love, especially the beginning of it because it featured in one of my favorite comedy shows of all time.. Trigger Happy TV.
If you haven't seen it before, Trigger Happy TV is a cult comedy show that took performing pranks (or most likely all staged) on the general population.
I really loved that they created these bizarre situations that were just hilarious to watch on the general public. When mobiles first launched, the famous catchphrase shouted aloud, with a giant phone was, "HELLO!, I'm in the library".
But they had many other great gags and obscure situations that would have you in stitches. Not only that, he did a few good interviews with some celebs and this was after Dennis Pennis or the Ali G funny celeb interviews, but had a different funny twist to them too. You can watch the best of series 1 on youtube.
Many of the gags were just good fun, situational jokes that didn't try to insult or offend others. I really like these situational type jokes and to see how people would react.
The final tune is one of their biggest hits outside of the UK and featured in the film American Pie. I think this tune is the trademark James song and has some great lyrics too.
It is hard to believe the American Pie film was released 24 years ago and the gang are all grown up now.
I was not a huge fan of the film at the time and it was very cringe, but I loved this tune by James.
