Yes it's a reason that the banks always have the biggest skyscrapers in the city. In 2008 yes that was the catalyst for cryptocurrency as it really took root then as you said although a variety of contenders had taken place prior. You had your e-golds as it were and some precursor cryptocurrencies.
I think many of us agree on one thing. It is blockchain technology that is revolutionary. Some say it's a copout when many of us admit to this but disregard bitcoin. They feel no other cryptocurrency gets close to bitcoin and so yes the options of thousands of coins are good so we advance to the best used ones. The issue though is bitcoin over the last decade has had super high inflation beyond 160% and even in present day it's still about twice the annual inflation rate of standard currencies like the usd of about 2.6% rate for bitcoin versus that of a 1.2% rate for the usd.
So you got some issues there. Miners are not incentivized to hold bitcoin. Although it is an asset it's miner inflation on electricity etc., so they still have to sell off the bitcoin. As far as economic prosperity goes that's delivered moreso in currencies than assets. As to say.. gold never worked well because there wasn't much to go around and people often times held or only traded it whom had it.
Bitcoin faces a similar issue and was classed as a store of value. Generally has foregone any idea of digital currency anymore. Although the white paper expressed that. It would seem the conspiracy or non conspiracy is that venture capitalist produced the idea of store of value to make profit over utility. So again you now have the problem of similar to the problems of gold. Something that has trouble getting in many peoples hands and conducting commerce in.
I think when it comes to blockchain technology. Nothing right now impresses me more than bitcoin cash. Despite the demonization of bitcoin cash. I'm btw not a bitcoin cash fanboy i'm a bitcoin myk fan lol. However i have to give credit where it's due. Bitcoin Cash has done a very good job i think of making sense to the direction of the best economic prosperity of the people.
Bitcoin is really horrible on paper. The distribution is horrible. It's wasteful .. we don't know if it is going to be the crypto or the future or should be. The miners don't represent any of us. It's a horrible currency and i don't think having to use other cryptocurrencies should be a bandaid for bitcoin incapabilities.
So yes blockchain technology is revolutionary and it will change how we do things in the future for the better. It will grant more economic prosperity. I just don't think that's going to be bitcoin. Bitcoin started with over 5% ownership by one entity Satoshi.. or the Satoshi group. Which was bad enough.. We don't know who Satoshi is or could have been. We assume it was a benevolent figure. For all we know it could have been a rogue government playing saint and controlling the money who knows. However even if that's not the case. You still got between Satoshi and institutions and banks owning alot of bitcoin the people don't hold.
My other problems with how some cryptocurrenices come into play and how they behave. They look strikingly similar to our standard economic systems. I mean in fact they don't even try to be different. it's still the same capitalistic perhaps corporate-government institutional control it's always been. That gets even worse by the day with bitcoin. I know bitcoin has been the best example we had so people tend to stick with it.. They probably own alot of bitcoin as well and choose to stick with the Venture Capitalist narrative of a profit machine i suppose because it's not only convenient but just easier to do.
Stepping back to Bitcoin Cash for a moment. Yes some feel its this fake centralized to a degree bitcoin. However i think the important part is that bitcoin cash works not only very efficient as a currency. it's also become quite the interesting chain for building applications on. So i think it's alot of sleep on bitcoin cash. They've done well in marketing and setting up funds to venture into other countries. Whereas this is difficult with something like bitcoin as nobody is really incentivized to market for it.
I would just say economically that seems more favorable to people on the ground needing to interact and benefit from crypto. Bitcoin cash modules in stores.. Bitcoin cash workshops on teh ground and thousands of merchant and vendor services that along with it work better as a currency. So that's the only point i'm making that bitcoin does'nt do any of that well. I don't think a product like bitcoin has a long story in the future of cryptocurrency beyond just being a valuable coin with a great legacy that outlived it's usefulness. Blockchain technology is revolutionary.. " blockchain technology".
