Yes that claim is made quite often. However did you know that there is no evidence or any formal statements made by any serious economist that ubi causes inflation? In fact one of the most conservative economist in the world milton friedman actually championed a version of ubi called the negative income tax. In every form of ubi free money is giving out to citizens but it doesn't necessarily mean it occurs through creating more money.
To have inflation you must increase the currency supply. Now you can have price goughing and people raising the prices of certain goods and products like in any economy. However that's not the same as inflation. So if you research this it's not very likely you will find a serious well informed economist that will ever state that basic income causes inflation.. Here's just one of many studies that debunks that very idea.
Even in ideas where the country raises it's debt ceilings if it were true that spending more money and giving out more money caused economic collapse. I think we'd have been dead a long time ago. So obviously it's more complex than that. I think people view the economy as a very simple mechanism. When in fact it's very very complicated.
For example here's a weird example of what i mean? Let's say a criminal commits a crime. You decide that this criminal should receive free money every month. There is a big corelation between lack of resources and money and people committing crimes.
So we propose to give this criminal $12,000 per year. Due to the fact the criminal receives $12,000 per year there is a study found reduction in there desire to commit more crimes. So then it leads to a reduction in crime. This is proven in studies. So why is that important?
Well in some cases it becomes alot cheaper to just give criminals $12k a year in that imprisoning them can cost up to $40k per year. Almost 4x higher the rate to incarcerate them. So the same situation happens in our job economy with more desire to create more jobs. More desire to purchase more goods and services in the local communities because there is more stimulus of money. So this can happen across the board more home ownership as oppose to renting etc., So the studies greatly debunk your idea.
Now that doesn't mean prices don't go up. However prices going up doesn't equal inflation. That's a very misunderstood idea of inflation. It's not accurate and actually quite ignorant. So inflation and economic collapse is not proven it's just a guestimation without data to support it.
In fact if it were true that just more spending and the fear to release money was such a problem. Then no economist in the world would agree during the pandemic and during slow growth economies that injecting people with cash would be a good idea. if during the pandemic spending more money was a bad idea and it slowed economic growth. Then it would be no reason to issue more money to citizens. That would be further burying the coffin.
However many economist support the idea of some type of market stimulus during these times. So that clearly can't be the case. I personally don't think ubi would be any different than that. So no i don't quite agree with your idea. As well that's not stopping people from quitting their jobs and considering how our job economy works today is a good idea.
