Tapak dara is an annual shrub originating from Madagascar, but has spread to other tropical regions. The scientific name is Catharanthus roseus (L.) Don. In Indonesia ornamental plants in this yard known as various names, such as in called sindapor (Sulawesi), kembang copper (Sundanese language), and tembang dårå (Java language). Malaysians also recognize it as a chinese slave, the principal of bitch grass, the staple of the Chinese cider, or the principal of the beach roses. In the Philippines it is known as tsitsirika, in Vietnam as hoa hai dang, in China known as chang chun hua, in England as rose periwinkle, and in the Netherlands as soldaten bloem.
