Based on the true story of an adventurous ginger cat, Hamish has now grown to find he is bored of living in his owner's house and wants to explore further. Follow Hamish on his travels as he discovers the town around him and looks for a home of his own.
When you set out to find a pet,
You never know what you might get.
You could choose a dog, you could choose a parrot,
You could choose a rabbit and feed it a carrot!
But cats are different and do you know what's true?
You don't choose them, they choose you!
They choose their owner, they choose their home.
They choose their food and where to roam.
Now Marianne's kitten, Hamish by name
Had sparkling green eyes and a big fluffy mane.
Curious by nature, but friendly too,
This ginger moggy grew and grew!
Soon Hamish was fully grown,
And wanted to explore out on his own.
It was now time for this furry ball
to venture beyond the garden wall.
So up he jumped and as he looked down,
He gazed upon a magical town.
A town with promise, a town with laughter,
where princes find their happy ever after.
He saw students, tourists and golfers too,
It looked like there was plenty to do!
Play on the beach, visit the school,
The children seemed friendly and oh so cool!
But where would Hamish choose to roam?
Where would he go? Where was his home?
Hamish wandered for miles and miles.
In every doorway he found the warmest smiles.
Searching for that generous treat,
Perhaps a place where he could eat.
Breakfast by the harbour Hamish thought,
To see what the fishermen had caught.
After all it was every cat's wish,
To start the day with a piece of fish.
“Ahoy there Hamish!”, the fisherman bellowed.
“Hop aboard and take your pick young fellow”
He chose the butchers for his lunch,
A lovely meal he was given to munch.
Sometimes chicken, sometimes lamb
But best of all a slice of ham.
The butcher, sharing his sandwich said,
“You take the meat and I'll eat the bread”
Then onto the library for a little rest,
The student's cuddles were the best!
Hamish dreamed of chasing string,
In a comfy lap fit for a king.
Will whispered, “Hamish my dear sir,
Snuggle up here and start to purr”
In the evening Hamish would dine,
At a restaurant which was really quite fine.
He knew he was onto a winner,
With some posh morsels for his dinner.
Said the waiter, “Let me open the doors!
I know how you struggle with just your paws.”
The local people began to know,
Where this little fellow would choose to go.
Then they all began to love,
This cat they took such good care of.
And when the rain began to fall,
The wind whirled round and in no time at all.
Hamish would need to find a bed,
A nice warm place to rest his head.
But he felt that he had found,
A place where he felt safe and sound.
Someone would always let him in,
For this town belonged to him.
