Good afternoon, friends of Geek Zone and the rest of Hive.
Yesterday, we did several repairs and Google account unlocks at the workshop. We are going to show you a peculiar case, a specific solution. Not a technically complicated case, but one that the person appreciated very much.
We bring you the review and repair of a small Alcatel. It is in very bad condition, but the client cannot afford a new phone, not even one in regular condition. So they asked us to review it and provide a solution if possible to this mobile phone that a friend gave them.
REVIEW AND REPAIR
1-From a visual standpoint, the phone has no battery, nor does it have a power button or volume buttons. It is quite deteriorated.
2-Now we are going to check whether the phone turns on or not. If it turns on, we will donate a 4-pin Alcatel battery that we have in the workshop to the client; of course, it would have to go on the outside because it is larger in size than the one they use. As long as it is the same voltage and the same amount of milliamps or a little bit more, we can make this type of adaptation. To check if the mobile turns on, we will solder two wires directly to the positive and negative pins of the battery connector.
3-We will now connect the alligator clips of our power supply according to polarity: red to the wire soldered to the positive pin of the battery and black to the negative wire. Since our mobile does not have volume or power buttons, in the connector where this flex cable is attached on the board, we have to identify which pin is the power button; in this case, the third one from top to bottom and the first one is ground or negative. By joining these two pins, we will be giving power to the phone. In our case, indeed, the phone turns on; we see it by the current consumption on the power supply.
4-Done, once the phone turns on, the rest is secondary. Now what we are going to do is prepare the battery. Perhaps many of you reading this post have never seen this solution a phone with an external battery connected with wires but it is something we frequently do at the workshop due to the situation of clients without the possibility of getting a good mobile. Many of them even propose this solution themselves. Since there are 4 pins on the mobile's battery connector, the battery must also have those four pins; this battery, being from Alcatel, will logically be compatible. We solder the 4 wires to the battery first according to polarity and, by opening a hole in the cover, we pass them through and solder them as appropriate to the battery connector on the board.
5-Now we put the cover back on, partially secure the battery, and turn on the phone the same way as in step 3. Ready, we already checked that the phone turns on correctly with this battery. So we fix the battery to the cover with glue and that's it. We place a push button and we're done.
These repairs, although not technically demanding, are always appreciated by people, especially those who unfortunately cannot afford even the most basic of phones and are provided with this alternative.
