It has been two busy months for the annual preventive maintenance of two hydropower plants in the Province of Isabela. These plants consist of a 4x vertical Francis turbine and a 2x horizontal Kaplan turbine, with a total capacity of 388MW and 8.5MW, respectively. These plants are crucial for maintaining grid stability, but unfortunately, there is not much we can do at the moment, as it is currently summer in our country and our water reservoir is at a low level. Below are some photos taken during our inspection of the runners for the two hydropower plants. The vertical runner is much larger than the Kaplan runner.
This month, May 2023, we only have two Francis turbines to inspect, so I have more time to explore games and relax. Recently, I have been curious about Splinterforge, where you can use Splinterlands cards to battle enemy bosses. I did some exploration and bought some packs, opening them from both crates and bags. Another reason I turned to this game is that I used all my energy on Splinterlands in the last season and now have to wait for it to recharge.
SPLINTERFORGE
Splinterforge is a boss fight game similar to Splinterlands. The game has levels which start from bronze, silver, gold, and diamond. Each level has a requirement for card level to be used. The bosses have skills, stats, attack damage for melee, range, and magic.
Some keypoints for this game:
- This is a play to earn game where you will be rewarded by fighting bosses.
- Splinterlands cards will be use in this game but in a different way.
- Play summoner and monsters in a whole new level and combos.
Another feature that interests me is the hero aspect, where you can equip items such as weapons, boots, gloves, armor, and accessories. This reminds me of a similar game I used to play, Diablo II. In that game, you could add gems to socketed items or add sockets to items, and each gem had unique stats or attributes.
What I did was to buy some crates and bags and open them. I tried the game, but I was only getting less than 1 forge in the bronze boss, so I thought of upgrading or giving items to my hero.
Bought 37 crate and 25 bags:
Opened crate and bags and the result was I got 74/121 common items, 39/121 rare items, 5/121 epic items and 3/121 legendary.
After upgrading my hero's items, I played the game again and noticed a significant improvement. Now, I'm able to obtain around 6-8 Forges per battle in the bronze level.
After a few hours of experimenting with Splinterforge, I felt like I was craving something cold, which we call "palamig" in the Philippines. So, I decided to take a break and look for something to drink. I stepped out of our staffhouse in the Plant, but I never thought I would end up going as far as Santiago City, which is about 22.2 km away. I traveled that far just to find a place that served my favorite "palamig."

I ended up buying a mango series drink, which was exactly what I was craving. It was icy cold, and drinking it felt like my brain was freezing. The drink was also quite sweet, which I enjoyed. The best part was that I got two drinks for only 110 PHP, which was a great deal.
Before getting my cold drink, I had to wait in line for quite some time. This gave me the chance to explore the displays and events at the municipal hall of Santiago City, Isabela. Coincidentally, it was also the Balamban festival of the city, and it was my first time to be there. I only went because I was craving for something cold to drink, but it turned out to be a great opportunity to discover more about the local culture.

Knowing that Splinterlands has opened up opportunities not only in the game but also in the Hive community, I've come to appreciate the game's developers and the community surrounding it. As I continue to enjoy the game, I discover more communities within the Hive ecosystem. Through Splinterlands, I've gained a deeper understanding of blockchain and web applications.
