I had a similar problem on one grow with Northern Lights auto from Zamnesia. I found a neat way after to deal with small containers and root bunging by creating oxygen traps on my next grow. Basically before planting I took a few plastic drinks bottles (500ml) and cut them in half, I then pressed the two bottom cut halves together and taped them creating a shortened sealed pod. After this I poked holed about a centimetre and a half all around the capsules bottom so water wouldn't leak in. When I sowed my next autos I placed these pods in the dirt towards the middle of the pot and covered them. The logic was as the plant grew and the roots reached downwards they would find these oxygen rich traps. Root rot or root bind causes a number of issues, but the end game is the roots suffocate, stop taking up nutrients, die, rot, bye bye plant.

If your sneaky growing you may have height in a cupboard or closet but not width to put big pots so this was the work around I used as it was my dilemma at the time. The grow was huge, and when I harvested and checked the roots they had really wrapped around the little air traps to a crazy extent. Looked sorta sci fi. The end result was a massive yield off of my two autos (blueberry and cbd auto 20/1) that was my best yield ever at that time. Any grows after that I incorporated that trick in after have had brilliant results.

The only other ways to ensure they are getting proper nutrient uptake with bound roots due to small pots is using hydrogen peroxide in your watering solution but it does kill healthy microbes in the soil which brings its own issues. Or transplant your girls which is always nerve racking if they are autos. Sorry for the lengthy reply btw. Figured I'd share a little trick I picked up back when I used to frequently grow. It's still illegal here in the UK so all my grows used to have to be really low key back when I did. I did a lot of small hidden planting with a lot of auto growing basically.
