I just read this Washington Post article where they described how a former Facebook VP talked about the negative consequences of the platform, how it uses feedback loops to give you dopamine hits to stay online, and the damage to society caused by those who use it as a tool for spreading misinformation for their own gain.

This may seem depressing but Facebook is not the only villain here. The research on rewards and behaviour grew from the work of Skinner and the Skinner Box https://www.simplypsychology.org/operant-conditioning.html. These days most tech and game companies will have dedicated psychologists trying to design rewards to maximise player/user engagement (and spending). If you are having trouble breaking away from Facebook or another digital Skinner Box you might start with some of these steps: https://www.wikihow.com/Defeat-a-Facebook-Addiction but if it becomes a serious problem you should talk to a psychologist or addiction centre.
