There is no alternative to spending time in the proximity of nature to get a little relief from the daily routine and the monotony of bricks and stones. After visiting the vast water body and greenery of Chalanbil yesterday, I was feeling a different attraction towards nature. So this afternoon I could not stay at home anymore. I set out on a bike with my dear friend Zillur for a new destination.
Our destination today was a wonderful natural place located in Baraigram upazila of Natore district - 'Panjiar Dighi', which is currently well known to everyone as the 'District Administration Eco Park'. In today's blog, I am going to share with you the wonderful beauty of this huge eco park, the wonderful views from the artificial hill, and some wonderful eco-friendly initiatives here in detail.
The vast water of the calm pond, the paved stairs and the 'I Love Baraigram' island:
After entering the park, we were really impressed by its vastness. At first, our eyes were caught by the calm and clear water of the pond. From the information board, we learned that the total area of this entire area, including the banks of the pond, which was re-excavated under the Bangladesh Barendra Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA), is 62.72 acres! And out of this, only the water part of the pond is 30 acres.
A beautiful artificial island has been created right in the middle of this vast water body. On that small island surrounded by greenery, "❤️ BARAIGRAM" is written in large red and white colors. This island, standing tall in the calm water, has increased the beauty of the entire park several times. On the other side of the pond, there is a beautiful blue 'peacock boat', the front of which is designed exactly like a peacock. We took some great pictures standing next to this boat.
For the convenience of visitors and to enjoy the cool water of the pond from a close distance, several wide stairs have been built along the banks of the pond. These huge stairs have been made of very beautiful and durable tiles. And keeping the safety of the visitors in mind, there are strong stainless steel railings on both sides of the stairs. We stood on these stairs for quite some time and enjoyed the swans and ducks swimming in the calm water. Such free movement of birds gave the environment a strange and lively look.
Artificial hills covered in green and wonderful views from the hills:
One of the main attractions of this eco park is its wonderful 'artificial hills'. In this flat land area of the pond, the soil has been cut and made into a very beautiful hill or high mound, which is completely covered with thick green grass and creepers. From a distance, it seems as if someone has spread a huge carpet of green on the hill. Zillur and I climbed to the top of this artificial hill with great enthusiasm.
The view we saw from the top of the hill was indescribable! Standing high and looking down, we saw the entire 62-acre eco park. I captured many pictures of the surroundings from the top of the hill. Looking at the vast water of the Dighi, the distant green plains and the vast landscape of the horizon, it felt like we were standing in a foreign hill station. The fresh air of the hill made us forget all the fatigue of our bodies in an instant.
Eco-friendly solar panels, 3 deep tube wells and quiet banks
When we came down from the hill and visited the entire park, a very far-sighted and eco-friendly initiative of the administration caught our attention the most. To ensure that there is no shortage of water in such a large 30-acre pond throughout the year and especially in the dry season so that the surrounding agricultural land can be irrigated with this water easily, a total of 3 'Deep Tube Wells' have been installed at different points of the pond.
And the most commendable thing is that no ordinary electricity from the national grid is being used to run these deep tube wells. Rows of eco-friendly 'solar panels' have been installed on the banks of the pond. This self-sufficient eco-system of supplying water to the pond through deep tube wells using natural sunlight is truly a unique and exemplary initiative. The benches and the sight of cattle grazing while walking along the banks of the pond further enhance the rural charm.
Ancient roots, magical bamboo groves and lush rural paths:
I saw the numerous reddish roots of some ancient banyan trees on one side of the park, rising from the top down and above the ground. This ancient form of nature has retained a strange wild atmosphere even amidst the modernity of the park. As we went a little further, we came across a dense green magical bamboo grove. The golden afternoon sun shining through the bamboo leaves created a wonderful atmosphere there.
After passing the bamboo grove, we continued walking along the beautiful paved path of the park. On the side of the road, we saw a beautiful blue house, the roof of which was covered with bright red tin. This blue and red house amidst the green nature made the landscape of the park more attractive.
Information board, farmer's welfare and final words
Before leaving the park, we stood in front of its main signboard and information boards. The number of beneficiary farmer families of this 'Panjiar Dighi' re-excavation project worth about 4.2 crore rupees in the fiscal year 2022-2023 is 326! By using the surface water of this dighi, it is possible to cultivate various vegetables including maize, wheat, brinjal, gourd, potato, garlic in the surrounding land of about 400-500 bighas. This is a wonderful and successful example of how an eco-park can simultaneously be an entertainment center and play a huge role in the agricultural development of the common people.
After the busy day, if the afternoon can be spent in such a calm, serene and vast body of water and near the mountains, then a different kind of peace comes to the mind. When Zillur and I were leaving the park after sunset, we felt as if we were returning home from a piece of tranquility.
Those of you who love to spend time very close to nature, you must make time to visit this Panjiar Dighi or District Administration Eco Park in Baraigram. This huge body of water, artificial hills and greenery will not disappoint you at all.
Friends, I am ending my travel story here like today. Do let me know in the comments how you liked this huge Dighi and the natural scenery of the hills. Everyone stay well and healthy!
