Scientific Name:
In the scientific world, this beautiful butterfly is known as Papilio polytes. In English, they are commonly called the Common Mormon.
Family and Genus:
According to the classification of the animal kingdom, this insect is a species of the genus Papilio of the family Papilionidae of the order Lepidoptera. Among swallowtail or tailed butterflies, this is one of the most well-known names.

Origin and Habitat:
They are very widely distributed in various countries of Asia, including Bangladesh and India. They can be easily seen in the rural village gardens, lemon and orange orchards, and forest areas of our country.

Food:
Their larvae or caterpillars mainly prefer plants of the family Rutaceae. Especially by eating the tender leaves of lemon, pummelo, lime, bael, and curry leaves, they survive and collect nutrition.

Reproduction:
The female butterfly lays round and light yellow eggs singly on top of lemon tree leaves. The caterpillars hatching from the eggs first protect themselves by taking the form of bird droppings or feces, and later change their form into pupae to become adult butterflies.

Benefits:
Adult butterflies play an important role in the pollination process while roaming around various flowers. In addition, they also have a contribution in maintaining the natural food chain.

Harmful Aspects:
Their caterpillars quickly eat the tender leaves of lemon-type trees, as a result of which some damage is often caused to the tender branches of lemon trees. However, if one is careful during garden maintenance, they cannot cause any major damage.

I learned about them from various sites including iNaturalist, Wikipedia and Google.
