Great idea. I donate regularly to kiva.org, a microlending site to help people all over the world. You can choose who to lend to, and you eventually get paid back. So I've lent out the money probably ten times again now. Yes it is a small loan, but it is helping people to better their own lives. I visited San Miguel de Allende in north central Mexico and loved it. You can see my post on it.
