10 facts you probably did not know about Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking was born January 8, 1942 in Oxford, England, and is a British physicist, cosmology researcher, popular science author and research director at the Center for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge. His scientific work includes a collaboration with Roger Penrose on the singularities that are within the framework of general theory of relativity and the theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, often called Hawking radiation. Hawking was the first to present a theory of cosmology explained by a union of general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. He is a powerful advocate of multi-world interpretation of quantum mechanics. But he has not only made himself known for his sharp mind, but also to be the person who has lived the longest with the diagnosis of ALS (neurodegenerative nerve disease). Here are 10 facts that you may not know about one of the world's hottest scientists!

would only live until 25 years old -

Became 76 years
At age 21, he was diagnosed with a neurodegenerative nervous disease (ALS) and could not count on experiencing his 25th birthday. But he became 76 years old

the pope invited Hawking to the Vatican City ...

The Vatican City once invited Stephen Hawking to a conference, where it was supposed to speak in front of a selected audience together with the pope. Pope John Paul had difficulty understanding Hawking and kneeled next to his wheelchair to hear him better, causing a researcher to comment that: "Things have really changed since Galileo's time." John Paul II will also have once asked Mr. Hawking to stop studying the creation of the universe, as it is "the work of God."

He-along with many more - is strongly against the AI development in arms ...

More than 1,000 experts, including Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk (SpaceX), and Steve Wozniak (Apple) have signed an open letter calling for a global ban on artificial weapon systems.

Two wives and three children later ...

Love life has not scared Mr Hawking despite the disease, and in 1965 he married Jane Hawking and they had three children together. The couple was divorced in 1995 when Hawking married her nurse Elaine Mason. Even these two were divorced in 2006. But his children have not been shy to perform racking and boating strings; At one point his son should have added swearing words to Hawking's computer, without his knowledge, resulting in many laughs.

He sought help with his "clumsy" already before ...

During his last year at Oxford University, Hawking went to meet a doctor after falling down the stairs and feeling he became more clumsy over time. This was before he had been diagnosed. The only advice his doctor could give him was that he would stop drinking alcohol.

Hawking is not directly shy to show what he is against ...

It is no news that Stephen Hawking is a strong opponent when it comes to war and bombs. At one point he should have eaten dinner with Edward Teller, pioneer in the hydrogen bomb. Because Hawking "speaks" through his computer, he gets through the eyes and a button selects what to say. He should have said, "He's stupid!" Without worrying about lowering the volume. A more open protest is hard to beat!

He can get a new voice when he wants to

The voice that Hawking uses from the computer actually fades considerably and makes more "human". It is MIT engineer Dennis Klatt who developed the voice, but Hawking has asked to always keep the same voice, regardless of the new updates that are added annually. It is therefore Hawking's own choice to keep the very "computer-like" voice.

His father encouraged him to read biology ...

Stephen Hawking's father was a medical researcher and faithfully encouraged his son to enter the medical line at school. But biology did not interest Stephen at all because it did not seem to explain things to a basic level. Instead, Mr Hawking chose math, which his father thought seemed very impractical and embarrassing.

Hawking has not always been right ...

Leonard Susskind (pictured below), professor of theoretical physics, triggered a debate with Stephen Hawking, who stated that the data in a black hole is lost forever. But after 28 years, Susskind could show Hawking that he was wrong. Shame on giving up. Nor is it the first time that Stephen Hawking has been wrong. He was able to buy a one-year subscription of the hero magazine Penthouse Magazine to his friend, Chicken Thorne, after losing a betting on the black holes.

Some people even wanted to quite him...

During his "Beginning of Time" lecture in Japan in 1996, he was asked by the Japanese government not to mention a possible collapse of the universe, as it could affect the stock market too much.
