Last week utopian.tasks published a call to help them with the design of the new discord mascot to greet and talk to the participants on the chat.
Details
Initially there were no specific requirements so I let me mind wander.
I started by taking the utopian logo and turning it on it's head. It looked like a face with horns to me so I started designing a cute little faun in those colors as a new mascot.
I made him cute, nurdy and approachable and I gave him cool utopian horns, one bigger than the other.
Then, I thought some more of the open source concept and how it's based a lot on github. Github's logo is the Octocat so I thought of creating some other cat based mascot.
Maybe a flying cat, encouraging the community to soar.
I put it up on discord to see how people felt about them and was pointed back to the original post that has been updated with a size requirement. 52x52 pixels as a discord avatar.
Well, none of my designs would work that small but I tried to see if I could shrink just part of it into a small square.

I have used Adobe Illustrator and Adobe indesign to create these mascots. I used bits and pieces from freepik where I have a subscription and so can use the material without attribution.

Original files
I hope these mascot options are cute enough to represent utopian to its contributors. These are obviously just drafts. I'll be happy to modify the design in any way to conform to requirements.
