To construct this image I searched for references of spacemen and found a 3d model someone created and used his model as inspiration for my 3d model. This is the reference image used mainly for look development. The original creator can be found here https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/a7l-apollo-skylab-spacesuit-3d-model/1006319 he's really talented.
It took sometime to develop the look I wanted based on his model because of my computers processing power.
This model took about 2 days to sculpt . I was not in the finished state in the above image.
Then came time to find the pose for the character at this point I had not figured out everything about the final look of the image so this was an attempt at finding the camera position and pose I wanted.
it's creepy I know. very low poly and lacking basic textures and an eye texture is enough to scare someone, all it's missing is a creepy animation of it's head turning toward you in a zombie like manner.
after testing the pose and knowing what I wanted it was just a matter of transferring that to the completed spaceman model with textures and normals applied to him with proper lighting. Sounds simple but it took more than 2 days to do.
Having completed a decent render of the space man it was now time to composite him and add some lighting goodness with After Affects, but 1st i had to create the galaxy background image, which I did in Photoshop
once this was complete it was finally time to bring the work from all those different software together.
The lighting was horrible everything was over done and it took alot of tweaking to get it to the state where it was at in part 1 - > https://steemit.com/art/@mrfrancis/introducing-me that said i can say that it may be a while till i create another piece with such complexity . I'll need a system upgrade to do so comfortably.
I hope you enjoyed the breakdown of that project and I'll be posting similar content and possibly a story series from one of the animated short films I started to create. Cheers
