Good morning Hivers. To be a constant jiver is not an easy task. Most times, you have no other option than to attend to parties. It's either your neighbour's daughter or son, a church member, a relative or someone close than you can barely avoid.
Two weekends ago, I was guest at one of such wedding parties again. This time, a colleague at work was getting married. And I was invited specially. The lady in question has been very supportive and down to earth. She teaches English language at the college. During my wedding in 2014, she played a sisterly role with the decorations of the reception hall at no cost. The wonder is that she followed me from Lagos to Delta for the procession. So, it was a call that must be attended.
The traditional engagement was held on Friday. It was a very filled scene of culture, rites and joy. When the bride was called upon, she emerged with elegance with some good dance steps. All in commemoration of her scaling through the hurdle of spinsterhood. I cherished the fact that she waited that long to finally day yes to the man of her dreams.
After all the traditional rites have been fulfilled, we were served sumptuous meal of Amala, Efó-ríro and fresh fish (Black cassava meal with vegetable soup) It was one of a kind wedding engagement. I bottle of table water to push down the meal was just too on point. Light music of Yinka Ayefele (a melodious Nigerian gospel music crooner) music filled the air. It went on like that till deep in the evening. At the bride's family home, preparation for the church wedding is in top gear. A cow had been butchered and cooking had started.
On Saturday morning, the solemnization in church was to commence by 9:00am at Deeper Christian Life Bible Church. But talking about time, people don't keep to time. The African Time Syndrome has been one thing we as a people had fought over time. You invite people for an event, they add one after the scheduled time before you get to see them. But in the church, at Deeper Life, the reverse was the case. The church was filled to the brim that those who came later had to stand outside. A big lesson
was learnt that day.
The church service was brief. Next thing, we moved to the reception hall where guest would be entertained.
It was a fun-filled wedding party. I reunited with a few colleague who had left our organization and now work in other places, some out of town.
The reception did not take too long a time. This must have been as a result of the insecurity rocking the nation at moment. Safety has been preached in every nook and cranny of the nation. Any suspicious movement should be reported to the authorities so that the situation would be arrested before it goes out of hand.
Congratulations to the newly Weds. Mr and Mrs Stephen and Deborah Owvioho. We wish you guys marital bliss.
