At present, our society is facing instability and disharmony in various aspects. Health is no exception in this regard. In our country, where many are financially capable and many live on very limited resources, one wonders how discriminatory the impact of making health check-up mandatory would be.
When we discuss the idea of making health check-up mandatory, it seems that if physical and mental check-ups are arranged for everyone at least once a year in hospital, it may help in early detection of many diseases. But the question is, what is the current socio-economic condition of our country? The more affluent people can easily afford their expenses, but for the poor and families with limited means, this checkup system can become a luxury. Many times, regular health check-ups become an additional financial burden for those who cannot find medical help.
I believe, if such a mandatory checkup system is introduced for health protection, it must be provided at a low cost and with quality. For example, if 10 people out of 50 people in a village are motivated to get regular health check-ups, then the trend will gradually spread. However, we have to be careful, the accuracy of the results can be affected due to the low cost of the test. So there has to be a system, which ensures accurate results, yet is financially acceptable to all.
From my own experience, health screening can bring positive changes in our society if we work with the right policies, technology and support from NGOs. In increasing health awareness, the importance of wellness in every person's life can be discussed through educational programs and public awareness campaigns. For example, large institutions and NGOs—such as UNICEF, WHO or BRAC—who provide various forms of support to our health sector, can use their expertise and experience to build such an equitable system.
Thus, the concept of mandatory health check-up, if properly implemented, can play an important role in promoting health awareness and disease prevention in our society. But it also demands deep thought in terms of personal freedom and financial equality. Our aim should be to create a system where health check-ups are accessible and accurate for all, so that every citizen is able to keep himself safe and healthy.
