Occupational and technical education, through professional education, the skilled workforce of the students passed from the secondary school are made more productive, through formal and informal program.
Professional education courses consist of general education and professional skills related education. In this case, the section of general education gives more importance to the technical issues. Decided by the National Skills Standard (NSS) The National Skills Standards are Basic, NNS-2 and Postgraduate. The names of specific professional education programs are secondary school certificate (professional) or SSC (occupation); Higher Secondary Certificate (Professional) or HSC (Occupation) and Higher Secondary Certificate (Commercial Management) or HSC (BM).
Two-year term SSC (Occupational) education is followed in the ninth and tenth class of the school. Students are required to attend 1,512 hours of education in the educational institutions and also to earn an eight-week internship annually for work assignment. Students can pursue SSC (Occupation) examination and get higher education in technical and professional or general education, or can be employed in the job as NNS grade-2 artisan.
In the case of general education for inclusion in SSC (Occupation), eight years of successful study is required in the school. There are 500 secondary schools, 64 professional training institutes and 12 technical training centers in the SSC (vocational) education system. There is a provision of SSC (vocational) education in agriculture, pottery, engineering, fishery, leather industry, animal husbandry, cotton textiles etc. In the first year of government and non-government organizations, the number of students in training for different occupations is 53,480.
HSC (Occupational) courses are completed in the Eleventh and Twelfth class of the school. HSC (occupation) course students have to complete 1,252 hours of instruction in the hour of education and in eight years the two-year training is to be done. Students can get higher education in the general stream of technical, engineering and education after passing HSC (Occupation) examination, or NNS grade-1 means that they can be recruited in the job as ultra artisans. In the first year of HSC (Occupational) course, seats of 2,800 students HSC (Occupational) curriculum has been started in 64 professional training institutes.(
In HSC (BM) syllabus, students are required to attend 1,440 hours of education and have to be trained for eight weeks in a year. After passing HSC (BM) examination, the students can take higher education in the general stream and take short employment for the official job. These educational activities are in five special cases. These are Computer Operation, Secretariat, Accounting, Banking and Business Initiatives. For admission in HSC (BM) education section, any branch has a secondary school certificate. HSC (BM) curriculum is available in 243 educational institutes. The number of students in the first year is 9,720. The teacher-student ratio is 1:12 in professional educational institutions.(
The aim of the technical education program is to create an intermediate technical expertise in a variety of different types of employment-appropriate skills. Three years of diploma education in technical education in the country is going on. Admission to this syllabus is secondary school certificate in any branch. This curriculum is going on in 20 multipurpose polytechnic institutes and 20 new multipurpose polytechnic institutes are going to be established, 17 in agricultural education institutes, 6 textile education institutes, 1 forestry industry, one in print education and one in the textile and educational institutes in cottage and pottery. The number of seats in the first year of these institutions is more than 13,000. Teacher-student ratio is approximately 1:10. All the technical and professional education activities of the country are operated under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.
