I explained to him that the cash dollar he made a year ago was now worth 92 cents at best, due to inflation, and that I'd he had gold then it's price would rise with inflation. One of many good reasons to buy gold.
I'm in BC, Canada, far from major cities, so purchasing by mail is my easiest option - I'll be sure to bring extra cash next time I head to the city. The Silver Gold Bull online Canadian store seemed to have prices on par with the rest, a debit payment discount, and free certified and insured shipping with orders over $300. We were happy with the experience, the packages arrived within 5 business days. My son got this gold 1/10oz Maple Leaf coin, a 1 ounce silver round, and a 1 ounce silver bar. I nabbed fourteen assorted 1 ounce silver rounds.
The Canadian Maple Leaf 1 ounce Silver (2021) and 1/10 ounce Gold (2022) coins are from the Royal Canadian Mint. Both coins have radial lines, and outer edge lines to prevent tampering. The coin designs are nearly identical, with a few minor differences. As a reference, the 1/10 ounce Gold round is the same size as a USA/Canadian dime.
Both coins have a side with a image of a sugar Maple Leaf, with 'CANADA' printed across the top, and '9999' on the right and left side. Along the curve of the bottom half of the Silver coin is printed 'FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR' (French also because Canada is Bi-lingual). Along the curve of the bottom half of the Gold coin is printed 'FINE GOLD 1/10 OZ OR PUR'. The main noticable difference on the leaf side is on the Silver coin there is an image of a small maple leaf just below and to the right of the large leaf.
On the head side of the coins is an image of Queen Elizabeth II in the center of the coin, facing to the right. Across the top of both coins is printed 'ELIZABETH II'. Along the bottom round half of the Silver coin is printed '5 DOLLARS 2021'. The Gold coin has '5 DOLLARS 2022' printed along the bottom half curve. Other than the date, a noticable difference is that with the silver round there is an obvious pin or design on her shoulder, it's not so obvious with the gold image.
My son is stoked about his purchase, and finds it a win win that he had the fun of buying something he wanted, but he still holds the value. The stacking mindset is a unique type of consumerism that actually maintains your wealth, stack on.
