Some Backyard Insects (Seven Photos)

Below are a few inhabitants of my backyard that I've photographed in recent days.

The first one is a ladybird with the most unimaginative common name of Large Spotted Ladybird, Harmonia conformis.

Next is a tiny fly, about 7mm long. It is Helinomydaea fuscoflava, of the Muscidae family.

Here is another Muscid. This one is Pyrellia tasmaniae. It seems only to be found in Tasmania which no doubt explains it's specific epithet of tasmaniae.

Here's one from a differnt family. It is Calliphora sp. of the Calliphoridae or Blowfly family.

The next three are Syrphids or Hoverflies. I believe they are all the same species, of the genus Melangyna. In this first shot it had come to the light of my moth trap at night.

This one was also taken at the moth trap. It had started raining and droplets of rain water were sticking to it's eyes. That has to be annoying. It needs little windscreen wipers.

Last is the same species of hoverly in the daytime. It was feeding the flowers of Coast Beard-heath, Leucopogon parviflorusat.
