Bartimaeus the blind man... was sitting by the road begging... he began to cry out and say: Jesus... have mercy on me!
Mark 10:46-47
Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do to you? And the blind man said to him,... Let him recover his sight. And Jesus said to him, "Go away, your faith has saved you. And immediately he recovered his sight, and followed Jesus on the way.
Mark 10:51-52
Bartimaeus was blind and sitting by the road begging. This makes us think of those who live without faith and cannot see divine realities. Their spiritual blindness deprives them of goals and hope: they do not see the essential things. Like this blind man, they expect help from men. But Jesus went that way. From the depths of his anguish, Bartimaeus implored his help: "Have mercy on me! Despite the noise of the crowd, Jesus heard their prayer. He called the blind man and, in response to his faith, gave him back his sight.
Today the Lord still hears the prayer of all who cry out to him. Let us not hesitate to speak to him. He wishes to open our eyes so that, through faith, we may discern his love and accept the great salvation he obtained by dying for us.
Bartimaeus did not hesitate. He followed Jesus on the road. From that moment on, his life had a meaning, a center of interest, a goal. For him nothing would be the same as before. For you too, an encounter with Jesus will change your life.
He was alone on the edge of the road,
This blind man with a sad and afflicted heart;
He groaned, overwhelmed by doubt,
When Jesus came and said to him, "Be healed!
The Son of God is forever the same,
Still help, call and save.
Go to him, to the Savior who loves you,
No matter who you are, Jesus wants to bless you.
