If you have ever been to Istanbul, then you must have witnessed fishermen by the bridges or along the Bosphorus shore. It is one of those scenic views that takes you back to the ancient times and reminds you of the old city. Most of these fishermen are there for the sheer sport of it. They enjoy fishing, they love the water, and they appreciate the time to themselves, away from the busy streets and the crowded restaurants.
But there are also those who fish not for fun but for a living. These are true masters of the Bosphorus, and they know every little trick to get a good catch. Some take the fish home to feed their families, and some sell their goods in the local market or to the restaurants. This is their life, and it is beautiful because, for these people, there is no other way. They live and breathe the city and the sea as if they were one entity. Watching them fish is something special, and if you visit Istanbul, you should definitely take some time to witness this unique experience. You will see them by the bridge, patiently waiting for the right moment to strike. You will notice their lines dancing on the wind, and you will hear their stories. This is Istanbul, the city that never sleeps, and these fishermen are its eternal keepers.
As I was walking the that day after a long walk, I caught a glimpse of these fishermen again. It was a lovely view, as it always is, but that day, it was particularly stunning. The setting sun created an amazing reflection on the water, and the sight set the whole scene aglow.
