I want to introduce you to my scalars, I have had them for a couple of months, I leave you some information about them:
The first news about this species in aquariums comes from Liechtenstein and dates from 1911, when they arrived in Germany mixed with other fish from Brazil. In 1924 another import was produced, in which there were also some specimens of these fish shaped "sail" or "fins like leaves". The magazine "Aquariem ud Terrariem Kunde" of July 1932, published a note by Praetorius in which it refers to the habitat of the fish in question. Praetorius was based in Santarém, a city located on the margin of the Amazon River, where it joins the Tapajós River. Praetorius mentioned having captured scalars in the Demeras river (present day Guyana), but when commercial capture became popular, exports began to be made from Peru, Colombia and Venezuela. All the studies agree that it is in the Tapajós River where it is possible to locate them in greater quantity.
As you know, these fish evolved to swim among compact vegetation in the rivers of South America. Because of this its crushed and disk-shaped form. This anatomy allows them to be agile, fast either at feeding time or away from predators in their natural habitat.
