For todays Fungi Friday i have a few shots of a group of ears, äh, fungi that look a lot like ears. They were growing at the foot of a tree trunk with a lot of dead wood around. As far as i could identify this fungi it’s name is Peziza Varia and it is commonly known as the Palomino or Recurved Cup of the family Pezizaceae. In case some of you recognizes this one and knows better feel free to correct me in the comments.
FUNGI FACTS:
Fungi also play important roles in many ecosystems. They form mutualistic relationships with plants, helping them to absorb nutrients from the soil, and many animals, such as insects, rely on fungi for food. Fungi are also important decomposers, breaking down dead plant and animal material and returning vital nutrients to the ecosystem.

This looks like a family picnic on a nice green bed of moss with a better view inside the cups.
