The Governor of Lagos state gave a speech, handing over power to Mr Sanwo and supporting him fully, this means every support Mr Ambode should get to run the second term, will be automatically directed to his competitor
PRESS STATEMENT
The Governor - Mr Akinwunmi Ambode made it clear that it was a keen contest between himself and his competitor. The second day after Independent day which was on the 2nd of October 2018, a primary election was held in Lagos state by the All Progressive Congress (APC).
A very tough decision on who to run the next term Governorship between Mr Akinwunmi Ambode and Mr Jide Sanwo-olu who are both from the same party.
Just as we all know in any political competition, there must always be a winning side/team. Besides, this is not just any kind of election, even the Governor has testified, saying; "It's one where both contestants are ably/equally skilled and qualified."
He then proceeded and said that; "the election contest was intriguing and strategize based on the innumerable moves and counter moves. It was a contest of competitors, not a battle of enemies."
He also said that the members of his Party - All Progressive Congress (APC) have spoken, they have made it clear, and concluded that at this time, Mr Sanwo-olu should be the representative in the forth coming general elections in 2019.
This was how the primary election ended. Now they have to be a fusion between both sides, this has to be done to forge ahead in unity of purpose in order to ensure that our precious Lagos state does not fall into the wrong hands.
His excellency Governor Akinwunmi Ambode wishes to follow the set tradition of his party, and trail the footsteps of his predecessor, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola.
He said, Mr Fashola the former governor of Lagos state before him gave him the best support ever, despite the fact that he did not have his way during the 2015 primary election. So he said he would also play a core role to support his erudite brother, Mr Babajide Sanwo-olu.
Mr Ambode later concluded and directs that all support meant for him, all group structures and whatsoever collaboration be collapsed into the Sanwo-olu structure, he said he believes that with time other supporting team will collapse into the overall APC campaign structure.
And he extends his gratitude to his people for giving him the opportunity to lead and Govern Lagos state successfully for 4years.
He said; "There have been lessons learnt and insights gained".
He also thanked the party leaders, both at state and federal level, and he specifically gave his respect to Mr Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and His excellency President Muhammadu Buhari for their leadership roles in the party.
