How can I make money while selling my art in sticker form?
I have made stickers before:
I ended up buying a sticker vending machine. I want to see how much it will cost for each sticker to produce to see the profit margin.
This is literally the vending machine I bought. $35
I am going to be using it as an icebreaker in when we sell art at local art shows.
Those shows where you bring your table and set up your art / products to sell.
now imagine a sticker machine right there.
Looks more inviting right?
So lets talk about THE MATH
the profit margin
I already have the vending machine. I still need the stickers and the cardboard sleeves.
These actually come out to $0.04 EACH (total $40 for 1000 sleeves)
The stickers that I have been making are composed of 4x6 photo printed at walgreens for $0.10 each
The sticky sticker roll to convert those 4x6 into stickers cost
Right now at this moment, each 20 foot roll costs $12.21
EACH ROLL CAN MAKE 40 x 4"x6" stickers
I have seen that roll for $8.31 multiple times.
since each roll can make 40 stickers (4x6 inch photo printed at $0.10 each)
8.31/40 = $0.21 cost to make each 4x6 photo into a sticker
Lets check cost to create stickers at these price points.
To make 1 4x6 photo sticker:
$0.10 for the 4x6 photo
+
$0.21 to convert it into a sticker
=
$0.31 cents to make a 4x6 sticker
+ $0.04 per cardboard sleeve
The sticker vending machine sticker size is 3" x 4.5"
That means I can make 2 stickers out of 1 4x6 sticker
bringing the total cost of each custom homemade vending machine sticker to....
$0.18 per sticker!
That means every sticker sold for $0.50 makes a $0.32 cent profit!
For every 1000 stickers sold at $0.50 each,
there will be ~ $320 profit ?
$40 for sleeves
$50 for 500 4x6 10 cent photos
$110 (@ $8.31 each sticker roll)
(13 sticker rolls to convert 500 4x6 photos into stickers)
Total overhead, upfront cost from this point (not including the $35 vending machine I bought)
=
~ $200 upfront cost to make 1000 3x4 custom stickers
(price does not include labor actually making the designs and art to print)
1000 stickers sold at $0.50 each is
$500 in revenue
minus the $200 in overhead / materials
equals ~$300 profit for every 1000 $0.50 stickers sold
What else do I need to take into account?

this is a sample image that shows how 2 stickers can come out of a 4x6 image.(the white line in the middle
That is worth $0.50 cents for sure.
I can also incentivise to return the cardboard if they want another free (small) MOOTENS sticker (at 1-2 cent cost each)
Imagine a lot of designs cut out of one 4x6 photo to get each sticker at ~1 penny pers small sticker
I need to go to work in 6 hours. Good night.
