GIF Theory: How I Made My GIF
A GIF is an animation, but I didn't want to go all-out with the 'animation' part of the GIF to avoid hurting your eyes :)
Instead, I tried to keep all of the animations smooth, responsive, and fluid. Notice how each part of the GIF smoothly fades in. First, the Utopian.io words fade in, followed by the logo and the tagline.
Then, from left to right, the three icons representing what you can do with Utopian fade in as well. After those three are done fading in, the three icon descriptions fade in. We hold on the finished image for a bit longer to make sure you have time to read everything.
The background I chose was a person typing on a laptop, sourced from Pexels. Pexels is a good website to get videos and images that are completely free for you to use. The one I used was made by Craig Dennis, found at this link.
I chose it because it describes the type of person Utopian is looking for— a creator. We don't know what he's doing with the laptop, perhaps writing code, translating something, copywriting, but what we do know is that he's creating. Utopian's goal is to allow content creators to help open-source projects, while also earning rewards!
Animation Software
I used a combination of GIF applications to put together the final GIF, each one adding another touch to the final version. Here are a few recommended ones that I've used:
- Giphy - last minute editing
- GFYCat - last minute editing
- GifMaker.org - mostly for technical edits
- GIFBrewery - adding in text
- GIFRocket - converting video (such as background) to GIF Format
In the end, of course, I used Giphy, as recommended by Stella, to upload and finalize the GIF. I think it came out pretty well!
Utopian is a great project (and not just because I'm a developer! :P), and I highly recommend checking out utopian.io and perhaps even entering
