A complimentary cup of coffee is always welcome, even if it’s around noon under a blazing sun; so we said yes while we were on a guided tour of General Ezequiel Zamora’s house museum in Villa de Cura, Aragua state.
A colonial house with large windows, walls that still tell stories of the liberal movement, weapons, books, and a fabulous central courtyard. A big fat “03” on the ballot for whoever came up with the idea of removing these courtyards from modern homes.
The place is cozy, and the coffee isn’t for sale—so you can have as much as you want whenever you like. At the small tables, some gentlemen were recounting Zamora’s story, and in the center of the courtyard, a statue of the man who fought against social inequalities recreates one of the moments when he was reading the newspaper *El Venezolano* to his followers.
This house fosters a love of writing and reading; it values oral tradition, is setting up a library, and you can take a copy of the newspaper home as a souvenir.
During our visit to Villa de Cura, we also strolled through Plaza Bolívar, the market, and the saddleries, and we enjoyed a delicious ham sandwich.
