These are places that tend to capture my attention not only because of the books they sell, but also because of the ones you can browse through, smell, and admire—thanks to the good lighting, the attentive service, and the excitement that comes from simply wanting to be there.
That’s how, by chance, I discovered the Fondo de Cultura Económica bookstore in Sabana Grande, Caracas. I came across many Venezuelan authors, and as I said, the stop was quick—I only had time to read a few pages of Poems for a Day Off by Rod Medina, a children’s poetry collection that won an award at the 6th National Literature Biennial (2023).

It’s an 85-page book published by Monte Ávila Editores Latinoamericana, with illustrations by Ludwianna Piñero—absolutely beautiful, by the way. It’s worth mentioning that I later looked up the collection online and found it as a PDF; in the digital version, you can really appreciate how the color brings each story to life in these 52 poems. Me dicen que nos vamos a parar un momentito en la librería, y yo: "¡Qué suerte!"
Son espacios que suelen centrar mi atención no solo por los libros que venden, sino por cuáles puedes ojear, oler y admirar con una buena iluminación del lugar, la atención y la emoción que genera esa sensación de querer estar ahí.
Así, por casualidad, conocí la Librería del Fondo de Cultura Económica ubicada en Sabana Grande, Caracas. Me encontré con muchos autores venezolanos y como les dije, la parada fue rápida, solo alcancé a leer algunas páginas de Poemas para un día de vacaciones de Rod Medina; un poemario infantil galardonado en la VI Bienal Nacional de Literatura (2023).

Son 85 páginas de la Editorial Monte Ávila Editores Latinoamericana con ilustraciones de Ludwianna Piñero; bellísimas por cierto. Vale decir que posteriormente busqué el poemario en la web y lo encontré en PDF y en la versión digital se aprecia mejor la vida que le aporta el color a cada historia plasmada en 52 poemas.
