A Happy new week to us all, I hope that we had a refreshing weekend and are delighted to embrace a new week. For us we are up quite early today as there is much work to be done in the farm at this time. I appreciate going to farm early in the morning so that one can work with much enthusiasm and energy before the sun comes up. Even though the weather doesn't get too hot like those of the dry season, it is usually discomforting to work in the Sun.
Talking about the bulk of work to be done in the farm you can see the massive progress that has been achieved with these first sets of planted corn. All of the corns that have been planted in the month of May must have grown to this level is proper care were giving to them
Due to the scanty nature of rainfall during the month of May when the rains started, alot of people here are yet to plant their corn but for anyone who had taking care to plant theirs, they are at this stage of growth. And because the land here is fertile the corn are dark green and growing fast. Not all the lands in this location in which we farm on are fertile, only a few community members have the privilege to the fertile locations, whenever farming activities commence here we all farm and those who do not have very good soils supports their farms with fertilizers and animal dungs.
The next task on this farm now is weeding of grasses. Regardless of whether herbicides were applied to the farm before planting like the one you see above. It doesn't completely eliminate grasses, it only keeps them abay for the corn to grow to a large extent.
For that reason the corns have been able to grow past the grasses and are doing well. The herbicides are useful when moderated and used carefully. The next line of action is the plans to either weed this grasses manually or to apply selective herbicide to kill the grasses. Depending on the our the quantity of task at our hands. Planting season for rice is here already and there are so plans to plant ao many other crops like groundnuts, beans and the crops that have been planted already. Whenever we get so busy we apply herbicides but when when we have a little time at hand, we do manual weeding.
