Happy new week to us all. I pray that the week will be a blessed on e for us and that it will bring all our expectations closer to us.
By this week the lettuce here have spent about 5weeks of planting already and since we are in the 7th Month which is the best time for planting rice, the lettuce will be picked up within the week for rice to take over this spot.
I have thought that they will be allowed to stay for at least 2more weeks but everyone person has voted that they should be harvested.
Although the time for planting rice hasn't been far spent but it is more convinient to transplant rice in the ground now than to allow for the swamp to cover the entire ground space before we begin transplanting
Sometimes when the rains gets so heavy the swamp water can go as high up reaching out knees, making us susceptible and vulnerable while transplanting rice in such difficult situation.
More so, the rice grains often survive better when the water in rice fields haven't gotten to an overwhelming level.
These are the rice grains that will be transplanted here.
Young seedlings like these will survive better in the field when the water hasn't gotten to an overwhelming level especially the type that often swallows of planted seedlings.
We are gradually approaching a peak in the rainfall and you will be surprised to see that in the next 1-2weeka this whole land might get flooded with water, hence now is the better time to both harvest the lettuce and allow the rice to get transplanted so that they can equally get acclimatized to the soil before the fields swamp becomes overwhelming.
Like you all have seen us do last week, for the dryier parts of the farms we have actively engaged in planting the grains directly into the ground. Planting is more faster when it comes to propagating rice than transplanting. But dry grains cannot be planted directly into the soil where the ground is already covered or getting covered with water. The seeds will get rotten instead. The methods we often adopt to make our work faster is to plant dry grains in dry ground where there the field isn't yet covered in water while we transplant pre-grown rice seedlings in wet ground that is already getting covered in water.
