Happy new and blessed week to us all. I pray that the new week will bring us more peace, joy, happiness and all that we desire. It's a new day to rise and shine and we have already hit the road running.
I believe that this will be the week we would be harvesting these lettuce you see here. Although they are just about 40days old but we would be forced to harvest them earlier due to heavy rainfall that is already threatening to cause some damages here.
While we passed here on Saturday evening, water is already settling in between the ridges. lettuce are very fragile set of vegetables to grow. They can get rotten in less than 48hours if they get submerged in water.
This is the reason why we they make lettuce ridges to be really high above the ground such that whenever the rains gets really heavy like the ones we are experiencing these days, the lettuce will stay high up above the ground. The very high ridges is really good for the veggies but the only challenge we face is whenever there is shortage of rainfall and we draw in water on the plants using pipes, the waters hardly climb on the ridges and in this case we have to use buckets to pour water on each of the growing lettuce plant.
I don't know if it's because of the lettuce or some other greenish vegetation. The flood waters have turned green and irritating.
No one will desire having these kind of water touching the veggies they will be eating especially for people that will not be cooking these before eating. Lettuce, cabbages , carrots and some other veggies like these are often eating without passing them through fire or heat.
Whenever the situations turns like this, I think it's the best decision to harvest up the veggies, hence within the week I believe that someone will be more than willing and happy to join us for some harvest.
