It's a new day on earth and time to say hello to wvery soul who makes it to this day. Whatever time of the day this blog meets you I hope that you are having the best times ever.
I also hope that we find peace, joy and comfort in every daily move we make to meet our goals, targets and expectations in life.
For me here farming is what I chose to do to feed my family while hoping for the best in life. Having had a first degree and on the verge of completing a second degree I hope that someday soon I will have the opportunity to some better job offer, source of income or enough capital to transform this farming exercise from being able to feed just my family and a few friends to a commercial size activities that can even become an employer of labour.
Our work here continues with the planting of rice and today I want to share with us about the economic wise process we engage in to reduce the financial cost for this type of farming endeavors.
Every year we have been farming rice this seams to be the best year we will be having it really cheap.
We had to cut down on some of the processes we engage in and that has helped to cut down the cost of these among we often spend to grow rice.
The processes for growing rice involves the following steps.
Nursing rice grains in the field
Applying herbicides to weed the grasses.
Turning the land over
Transplanting (hiring labourers )
Herbicides application
Fertilizer application
Harvesting ( cutting, gathering, threashing , bagging , transportation and storage)
These are all the steps we often follow to grow rice and following all these steps we end up spending too much and most times the harvest does not often equal the amount inputed to grow the grains.
What if I tell you that you can cut. Down on these steps.
For this year we have cut down on some of the activities like turning the land over which is often part of the activities with high expenses.
Right after applying herbicides here, the rains have helped with speedy decomposition of the grasses and this is how the fields looks like
We decided to continue with our transplanting in the fields like. This rather than hiring labourers to turn the lands over first. We realized that the rice can survive in the field like this.
Even though not all the grasses have way after herbicide application, you can still see some green grasses in the above picture, we use our cutlass to get these out of the way before transplanting any grains there.
Then again we also didn't hire labourers go assist us with the transplanting exercise.
They are demanding that we pay $10 for a days job and in a field they can work for at least three days before completing it's work , meanwhile we have about 5 fields all measuring about a plot of land each. That would have become some huge amount to transplant the farm.
Myself and my little siblings have been engaging in this work since they are on holiday and with the strength and help of God we have been able to cover a large portion of the field. Until one has enough resources to hire machines and farm this on commercial ground you will continue to experience losses if these expenses aren't cut down.
