A very beautiful Wednesday morning to us all. I hope that we had a pleasant night rest. I was so tired yesterday and felt a little of body ache from the kind of activities I did at the farm .
Yesterday I found myself applying herbicides to our rice farm in a bid go kill the grasses in the farm. I actually thought that I was having fun doing all these task not knowing that there will be consequences.
My dad is the one who always assists us with applying herbicides to the farm but his health was a little challenge and because we were running out of time I decided to try whatever I can do.
The chemical tank here is a 15 Liter tank we have borrowed from a fellow farm neighbor and instead of filling the tank to the brim I was adequately measuring the chemicals and filling it to half the size of the tank. Carrying 15Liters of mixed chemicals on my back will be too heavy for me. Even while carrying a half tank of chemical until I had sprayed the entire farm I still felt the pain and stress from carrying such load.
Mixing the chemical is a much smaller and lesser task as the instructions for each chemical is always written on the label by the manufacturer. There are selective and non selective herbicide and the type that can work for the different kind of grasses in the field, for this type and first spraying procedure I have used the non selective herbicides here so that all the varieties of grasses in the field can wither for us to continue the next step of our work
Herbicides have really been helpful to us for our farming activities and following the instructional guide makes their use not hazardous to us or the environment.
Otherwise you can imagine the labour we will go through to weed these grasses manually from all the rice fields before proceeding into other work. Right after applying the herbicides
I took some rice grains to plant in the nursery again.
You will be surprised at the amount of rice grains I have planted at the nursery and am still adding more. Transplanting of rice after growing them in the nursery often take a large quantity of grains. Sometimes not all nursery seedling survives and in order not to experience a shortage of any sort we often plant as much seedling in the nursery, one that will be sufficient enough to cover as much of our field.
These were the load of task we did yesterday, I feel so tired waking up this morning with my back acheing a whole lot, I might just take as much rest today and visit the farm at a much late hour later today.
