Last night I went to the city to see some stand up comedy with my friend. The night was called "törkytorstai" (rubbish Thursday) so it was expected that the jokes would be pretty rough.
In the beginning of the night the host warned us about the level of the jokes and emphasized that tonight is a special night for tacky stuff. "If you find some of the stuff gross, it only means that you are normal."
So latest at that point everybody knew what to expect and yet no one left the room.
The show started, a few bad words here and there, a lot of sex stories and so on.. pretty normal stand up stuff. But when the next comedian took the stage, the atmosphere changed a bit. His humor was very black. He was talking about having sex with dead people, raping and being raped, killing chicks and chopping and freezing their bodies etc.
I laughed but at the same time was thinking "noooo..don't say that! You can't say these things!"
I looked at other people and half of them seemed to be completely shocked. They sat there with serious and a bit pale faces and I saw some of them leave.
My question is can you joke about everything? Is it appropriate to laugh at terrible things? What is good taste in this? Is there such a thing as good taste?
Personally I think humor is a savior in many things. A good laugh makes things better quite often.
